So much of what we believe is based on what we have been feeding into our minds. Because most of us have been programmed with some pretty negative stuff that only serves to keep us stuck in an unhappy rut, we have a pretty big task of rooting out all that junk and letting the better ideas take hold, such as the ones regarding our power to shape the course of our lives, taking responsibility for where we are now and where we want to go, and the power of intention.
For most of us, our current mind food consists of fearful news, gossip, negative talk, complaining and the like. All of these things form the beliefs that influence everything we do in life. To truly change your thought process, you need to feed your mind a constant diet of books, blog posts, CD's, seminars, and any other medium that exposes you to a more positive way of thinking. It takes repetition. As these ideas get deeper into your mind, your thoughts, feelings and actions will change in a way that will serve you a million times better. If you are not feeding your mind these new ideas on a regular basis, you will never get to the point where you will make any significant change.
You need to cut back on the things that put negative thoughts into your mind.Let's take the news for example. You can still be an informed citizen without taking in every horrible event happening in every corner of the globe. Watching the news for a bit or reading the newspaper every morning is probably not so bad. It is not a great idea, however, to make a habit of watching 24 hour news channels most of the day. What purpose is it serving? Sure, there are some terrible things happening in the world, but how is focusing on all of them and convincing yourself the world is a horrible place serving you? Focusing on bettering your little corner of existence and maximizing your happiness is actually a pretty great way to contribute to the bettering of society as a whole.
It can be difficult to avoid negative talk all the time because we cannot control what other people are going to say. You do, however, have control over what you say. By not engaging in the negativity, you are protecting your mind from a lot of crap taking root, such as things being unfair and outside circumstances dictating our lives. In most instances, you can still manage to converse without getting caught up in it all. In some cases, however, you may need to work on avoiding certain situations if you find certain people really lay it on thick when it comes to low-energy talk.
What we feed our minds will set the stage for everything that happens in the outside world. Think about your mental diet. What good things is it lacking? What are some of the bad things you are feeding it?

Hi Kelli,
ReplyDeleteAnother spot on post!
Your life proceeds in the direction of the thoughts and feelings you choose. Choose to eat a crap mental diet, live in fear. Watch the news throughout the day, you are mentally feasting on hate, poverty, fear, anxiety, jealousy, envy. How's that gonna work out for ya?
Thanks for sharing your insight!

Thanks for taking the time to read the post and comment RB. People need to get over the idea that not focusing on all of the negative stuff in the world is like living in denial. Sure, crappy stuff happens but most of the things are beyond our control and obsessively tracking them will not do much good.
